And if the overflowing crowd of happy diners on a sub-zero Tuesday evening is any indication, the newest coal-fired shop is a welcome addition to the area
From the Heavy Table: In the last few years, the Twin Cities has gained a national reputation as a hotbed of handcrafted, high-quality pizza. With the opening of Pizzeria Pezzo, White Bear Lake is getting in on the action. And if the overflowing crowd of happy diners on a sub-zero Tuesday evening is any indication, the newest coal-fired shop is a welcome addition to the area.
With financial backing from the late Jim Kowalski (of Kowalski’s markets), Pezzo’s owner and chef, Gary Bougie, seemingly spared little expense on this large (borderline massive) restaurant. It’s modeled on Bougie’s original pizzeria, Slyce, located in a northern suburb of Chicago. Pezzo is big enough to accommodate a large bar area, a very large dining area, and a sizable room for private parties.
Pizzeria Pezzo "The Pezzo Promise: We have preserved the art of making hand crafted artisanal coal fired pizzas, as well as authentic hand pressed Chicago Deep Dish. Our mission is simple: Have a simple menu that allows us to focus special attention to every ingredient that comes into our building. We choose and use the best quality ingredients possible. We don’t believe in pre-made, mass produced food. We source locally grown or raised products whenever possible. Our local farmers and vendors have a passion for growing and sourcing the freshest produce around. All of our dairy products are hormone-free. In addition, we use one of the cleanest natural burning resources to heat our ovens. At Pezzo less is more. Our fresh ingredients are delicately placed, not piled on, to create a perfectly balanced pie. So, sit back and relax as we hand craft you one of your favorite, perfectly made pies."
Pizzeria Pezzo is rumored to be planning several more restaurant locations in the greater Minnesota area over the next few years. You can follow all of Pizzeria Pezzo's developments on their website or social media listed below.
